Technology sucks!

Last week I dropped my portable hard drive. It broke. I lost everything on it. This includes all the photos of my paintings and drawings at various stages of completion. Of course I can still get the scaled down versions from the website, but all of the hi-res originals are gone forever, so the pictures on the site are the biggest anyone will ever see them. (Some I can photograph again, others have been sold or given away, and the inbetween stages obviously can't be recreated.)

So what have we learnt from this? Backup all your valuable data onto CD, or better yet, I've started storing images at imageshack.us - you can upload unlimited images for free, and they won't be compressed in any way. Extra insurance against the digital data fairy.

Anyway, I bought a new hard drive, and will upload some pics asap.

Lucky I read this. I keep all my photos on a portable drive - thinking it's safe - and the possibility of one day doing something as simple as dropping it had never occurred to me.
