Cheryl Cole caricature
I’ve been working on a couple of secret projects for the last couple of weeks, so haven’t got much to show for my daily drawing, except for a few really crappy sketches, which will never be seen by human eyes. I was having a really bad drawing day yesterday, so I thought I’d do some warm up sketches tonight. Ended up getting really into it and worked for about two hours on this Photoshop sketch of lovely Cheryl Cole.

It’s notoriously difficult to caricature beautiful women without making them look ugly or fake. The whole idea of caricature is to accentuate those features that make the face unusual, which usually results in something quite grotesque, not an ideal way to capture beauty. But I think it’s possible to accentuate the particular features that make someone unique and beautiful, it’s just a lot trickier than giving someone a massive nose!

Superb work Dan. I know exactly what you mean by how beauty can be tricky. It can be a real challenge and sometimes more exciting to try and find that certain something that identifies a person deep within their face toon-wise! Well done again buddy! Have a great Christmas.

Hey Dan this is excellent, you’ve done a great job of this. I know how tough she is to get right, took me a lot longer than two hours to do my version of her!

Nice line work on all your caricatures by the way. I’m also a caricaturist, not quite your level yet but getting there! I strangely seem to always make my subjects look prettier than they actually are and I’m really trying to exaggerate features more but find it hard to make people look ugly, I really want to though, lol.
